'This Acton legend would be remarkable enough for it's green glazed brick exterior, but things get even better inside, beyond the front door drinkers and diners treated equally hospitably but kept separate in two handsome wood- lined rooms that positively glow with good cheer and comfort this time of year. Come the summer, there's a cool leafy terrace on which to enjoy your pint. Time Out 2012
A friendly gastro-pub, The Swan is much appreciated by locals for its international range of beers and cosmopolitan atmosphere. A pub for all seasons, it has a welcoming wood panelled interior and a large lawned garden and patio area for outdoor refreshments. Good food is at the heart of the operation, and you can sit and eat wherever you like. The menu of modern, mostly Mediterranean cooking has a particular Italian influence, and vegetarians are not forgotten. Start with perhaps grilled quail and pomegranate salad; or Harira—Moroccan lamb and chickpea soup with saffron, ginger and coriander. Mains might be roast guinea fowl with Savoy cabbage, sultanas, chestnuts, pancetta, and parsnip puree; or oxtail Milanese. Still have an appetite, then finish off with apple and date crumble with ice cream, or tiramisu? Real ales in season are listed on the menu alongside the guest ale.
The AA Pub Guide
A favourite with families, who appreciate its spacious interior, sprawling garden & play area, The Swan tries hard to remain an authentic boozer, with a wide selection of beers available & three cask ales on tap: however, it's also challenging other nearby gastropubs by offering a seasonal, Med-influenced menu (tweaked frequently) & a smashing selection of wines at reasonable prices. The food is hearty, with a focus on good-quality meat – typical dishes include grilled Italian sausages, which arrive with a pile of mash & red onion marmalade, or spatchocked poussin served with slow-roasted tomato & caper salad. Pasta & risottos are available in two sizes, tapas is for sharing, & there’s a choice of homespun puds such as sticky ginger cake with mascarpone to close the show. Mid-range prices help to pull in a young, well-off crowd (with or without kids in tow).
Squaremeal
With its wood-panelling, leather sofas, cosy fire in winter and huge flower-filled garden in summer, this happy pub in a Chiswick backwater makes a great local; a varied menu plays an honourable supporting role.
